Hi, my name is Teddie, or Theodore when I get into mischief! I am a 10-year-old male Shih Tzu who weighs 11.3 pounds, has soft black fur with silver highlights and adorable puppy eyes! I came to SBRET from a shelter. I was in poor shape with an eye infection, ear infection, skin infection, and was malnourished. I am happy to say my eye and ear infections are gone and I am gaining weight. I will require continued eye medication for impaired tear production, and I have some hearing loss due to my untreated ear infections. I am on the tail end of my skin infection but still require weekly baths with medicated shampoo.
I enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood and playing fetch with my favorite squeaky starfish toy! I like lots of snuggles throughout the day, sitting on laps, lying in the sun and following my foster parents around. I can be vocal if I am not getting enough attention. I would do best with my new owner being at home or working part time, as I do not enjoy being by myself for more than a few hours. I am crate-trained (nighttime), leash-trained, and potty-trained. I will let you know when I have to go potty by whining or barking. Do not be surprised if I have a few accidents when I come into a new home, I tend to get a little nervous. I also get nervous at the groomer and may have accidents there as well.
I am getting along with my two foster siblings (a Maltese and Schnoodle). I do not play with them, but we sometimes nap together. I do prefer eating by myself, as I am protective of my food. When I drink water, I prefer to drink a larger amount once or twice a day. Please make sure to take me outside after I drink so I do not have an accident. I use prescription eye drops once a day to help with my tear production, this will be a long-term medication for me. I can be a little squirmy when you put them in, so please be patient with me! I can be easily startled due to my hearing impairment. Sometimes I jump when you pet me if I do not hear you coming. I am always friendly, even if I am startled but would do best with children 10 and older. I am a little timid going up and down the stairs and may need some support if there are stairs in my new home.
I sleep through the night in my crate next to my foster dad. I prefer being in my crate at night versus the daytime. My foster parents are still working on daytime crate-training with me. I am a big ball of love and cannot wait to meet my new family! I have been neutered, microchipped, on heartworm/flea/tick preventative, and up to date on all my shots. My adoption fee is $100.
