2/23/10 update available!

Did you laugh when you saw my picture? I can’t help but make people smile with my big ears. My name is Twinkle and my New Year wish came true! I was rescued!!! I came from a life of living in a cage and having lots of puppies. I’m a Chihuahua and only 3 years old. When Small Breed folks rescued me, I could barely walk. I am about 6 pounds and am trying to gain weight and muscle in my back legs. You see, I have to have knee surgery (for luxating patella) as a result of poor genetics and my former living conditions. Soon I will be ready to have surgery and then on to recovery for at least six more weeks. I won’t like that part of this deal, but I will like the continued pampering and my own food! Yum!!!

My foster parents think I’m beautiful and my fur is so soft it feels like a rabbit to the touch. They are introducing me to all kinds of things. I love treats and I am starting to learn what to do with toys. I’m also learning to use wee pads but it’s so hard when I get so excited. I’m still a bit timid around people, but I so love being petted and rubbed.

When I’ve recovered from surgery, I am going to need special care and attention in my forever home to continue healing. I wouldn’t be good around small children as I am too small. Please consider helping me on my journey or becoming my forever home. My adoption fee is $175.

2/7/10 update: Well I had surgery on February 3 on my rear left leg to repair a luxating patella and am now recovering quietly in my foster home. Can you believe I have to wear this ridiculous cone on my head? Oh well, my foster mom says it is for my own good. After my recovery I will be able to move around so much better--I was already doing better by just building up my leg muscles but I still had a problem with my left knee. So in about 6 weeks or the middle of March I will be ready to go to my new home. Of course if you think I might be the one for you, please go ahead and submit an application!

2/23/10 update: I'm doing very, very well after my surgery! Even though I'm confined, I'm moving my little leg and putting a bit of weight on it. I've also gained some of my weight and strength back (it's so hard to be calm when you have to take it easy after surgery). Don't let the "pitiful" pictures fool you, I'm a gorgeous little girl and quite the "kisser" too! I'm such a sweet girl that I positively "vibrate" whenever I see my foster parents and just about wag my back end off. Looks like I will be a WONDERFUL lap doggie as I'm content to sit either in your lap or right next to you for as long as you will let me. I've figured out what toys are and even play a bit with my little stuffed friends. I'm doing great with my puppy pads (I'll be working on housetraining after I finish my recovery from surgery). Now I just need a forever home.
