7/8/09 update available!

Hey everybody! My name is Romeo and I am the only boy in the big poodle posse rescued by the fabulous folks at SBRET. Check out my "before" pictures along with pictures of the other 11 Poodles that came to rescue with me. I am a little apricot poodle, only about 2 years old and around 6 lbs., though I need to put on just a pound or two.

Due to untreated ear infections and ear mites and the resulting constant scratching and head shaking I was not getting good blood flow to the ends of my ear flaps. So the wonderful vets at Anderson County Animal Hospital trimmed around the edges of my ears to get back to healthy skin and tissue--once all my hair grows back no one will ever know! I also have a little place on my tail that is still healing from my previous neglect. I am going to be one handsome fellow soon--of course my foster mom already thinks I am! My foster mom says now that all of my minor medical issues have been addressed, I am ready for my new forever home.

I am a playful little guy, and while I think my foster mom hung the moon, I am also very friendly to the children and foster dad here as well as all the dogs from 6 lbs. to 140 lbs. and the cat. I really enjoy hanging out in the yard while my foster mom does yardwork or reads a book. I never get too far away just in case she needs me. I ride great in the car and do just fine on a leash. I'll be a good little watchdog too, because I bark when strangers come around or someone startles me. My foster mom says that I bark at appropriate times though and am not overly yappy. Most of the time I just lay quietly near wherever my foster mom is and act like a really good boy. When my hair grows out I am going to be one very regal looking poodle!

I think I'm perfect, but my foster mom says there are a few things about me that aren't perfect and that I have to mention them. The biggest thing is my house training, it is taking quite some time for me to get the right idea about not going potty in the house. I love to go outside, I just don't always understand that we are out there waiting for me to "go". I improve a little bit every day though, and my foster mom says she really believes one day it will "click" for me and I will be housetrained. My new family will need to be diligent in getting me outside and reinforcing positive behaviors. Also, when I get really excited or feel my foster mom is neglecting me, I nip at her hands and legs much like a puppy. For this reason, it is probably best if there are not very small children in my new home.

The only other thing I should mention is that I don't care for my crate very much. I willingly run into it at dinner time, but as soon as I've finished my dinner I will scratch at the door and whine to be let out.. I will also sleep in the crate quietly at night (after just a few moments of whining and scratching, just to make sure you won't let me back out!) but if I could find a family where I didn't have to be crated too much that would be really great. Though I sometimes have potty accidents, I don't ever mess with things that don't belong to me when I am left out.

My foster mom really loves me, and thinks when you meet me you will too! My adoption fee is $175.

7/8/09 update: Hi everyone! Aren't I a handsome apricot poodle? My foster mom says I'm going to be very hard to give up! I love to play with my corgi friends and am also a great cuddler. I also am good to the cats here and just watch them go by... I'm very intelligent, as you would expect from a poodle, and am working hard to pick up my all the time toileting outside. A little patience is appreciated here if you please. I warm up with some sweet loving to make sure you are a nice owner, and then I'm your forever friend! Check out my new photos!
