In Loving Memory

Hiya everybody, I am Ruby and I am unlike many rescue dogs in that I am a very "normal", happy, healthy and loving girl. I am what they call a chi-weenie, a Chihuahua/dachshund cross with the long body of a doxie and the huge erect ears of a Chihuahua—have you ever seen anydoggie cuter? I am about 5 years old and weigh a petite 10 lbs.

Let's see, what should I tell you about me besides that I'm practically perfect in every way? My favorite thing in the world to do is to hang out with my human family members. I want to be in your lap or in your bed! I love children and when my foster parents stay up too late for me I always go get in bed with one of the little boys who live here. I also love to have a lick-fest with the 6 year old on the bed or floor, I lick his face until he laughs so hard he cries. I'm very happy when I get lots of positive attention. Every now and then I try the licking game with my foster mom, but she doesn't laugh like the boy so I stop when she tells me to.

I will happily go potty outside (except very early in the morning when it is still dark and cold!) but I also have no qualms about pottying in the house if you don't get me out in time so this will require diligence on your part. My foster mom is sure that if you had a securely fenced yard and a doggy door I could easily learn to let myself out—she says I am extremely smart!

I'm accustomed to someone being home with me almost all day, I really enjoy that and would love a home where the people have lots of time for me. The crate is definitely not my favorite place to be. I will stay in one, but I do whine a little bit and scratch. I'm not obnoxiously noisy in the crate, but I can keep it up for a long time!

When my foster mom takes me out to adoption events I tend to get snippy with the other dogs. I've never bitten one, but I do snap to make my displeasure known. My foster mom says she isn't sure why I do that, because my foster home has 7 other dogs and I get along grandly with all of them! (See the pictures!) If you have other dogs, my foster mom can give you ideas to make the transition a smooth one—on my end anyway! I will cuddle with and love love love to play with the other little dogs here (I leave the giant dogs who live here alone, but they don't bother me) and am usually the one who instigates play sessions. I mostly leave the cat alone, but sometimes if the other dogs get wound up and chase him I just can't help myself and join in.

I am a very sensitive girl, and the transition to my new home might be rough on me for a few days while I try to figure out when I'm going "home". When I am scared (like if you get mad at me) I will hunker down and tinkle a bit. Once I settle in though and learn the routines, I make myself right at home! I walk great on the leash and ride well in the car, though I prefer not to be taken anywhere that is too busy (it's that sensitivity and insecurity again.) I'm great with women, men and children. My short coat requires minimal care and doesn't shed much, I'm a low maintenance kind of gal!

My biggest requirement is a comfy lap to spend lots of time in. What are your requirements for an awesome family pet, do I meet them? If so, you should call SBRET and ask to meet Ruby! I've been in my foster home for a long time. They don't mind because I'm such a good girl, but if I can't stay here it would be really nice to find my perfect forever family very soon. Remember me, Ruby-Dee! My adoption fee is $175.
