In Loving Memory

My name is Kelly and I am a 3 year old 12 pound female Chihuahua mix. As you can see I do have a little problem with my eye. I had an injury to my eye when SBRET took me in, the vet checked it and decided to wait and see if it healed along with using daily eye meds. My eye does look much better than it did but will always have a scar on it. Plus I have "cherry eye," which is where the third eyelid pops out but SBRET is going to pay for the surgery to tuck it back into place. The vet says I will probably never see out of that eye but that's ok with me, I get around just fine!

A little more info about "cherry eye" ... The normal canine eye receives its tear film from two lacrimal (tear-producing) glands. One gland is located above the eye, and the other is found within the third eyelid. The gland of the third eyelid contributes a significant portion of secretion to the tear film. In the smaller breeds, the gland of the third eyelid is not strongly held in place. The gland prolapses (slips out) and becomes a reddened mass. Out of its normal position, the gland does not circulate blood properly and may swell. The only acceptable treatment of cherry eye is replacement of the gland in its proper location. There are two techniques for doing this. The traditional tucking method is probably most commonly performed. A single stitch is permanently placed that draws the gland back where it belongs. In a newer surgical technique, a wedge of tissue is removed from directly over the actual gland. This technique is more challenging as it is not easy to determine how much tissue to remove. Tiny stitches that will eventually dissolve are used to close the gap so that the tightening of the incision margins pushes the gland back in place. Sometimes both surgical techniques are used in the same eye to achieve a good replacement.

My foster mom says not to worry - my cherry eye will be fixed before I go to my new home. Thanks to your donations, my surgery has been paid for. Check this page again soon for an update and new pictures.

Enough about all of that and on to how sweet I am! My foster mom says I'm just a little clown. I LOVE to play, and when I get real excited, I do this crazy thing where I run as fast as I can around the house and back to foster mom. I try to get my foster brothers and sisters to play with me but most of the time they are just boring and want nothing to do with me. So I would love to have someone to play with either human or animal. I do get along with dogs, we are not sure about cats yet but I would probably do just fine.

Oh I am doing well with my housetraining. I walk well on a leash too. I do love to go on walks and can stand to lose a few pounds anyway. I would do fine with older children that would play with me but I may be a little rough for younger kids.

So, if you're looking for a fun little friend, I'm the gal for you!! My adoption fee is $175.
