Hey everybody! Dexter here, ready to find my special forever family! I am an incredibly cool, fun and friendly 13 lb. male Silky Terrier. I was turned over to SBRET with information stating I was a 9 year old yorkie, but after SBRET's awesome vet took a good look at me, she believes I am only about 6 years old. Regardless of age, I am playful and oh-so-friendly. The perfect thing about me though, is that I don't act like a wild-man-puppy all the time, I'm completely content to plop down on a dog bed near my foster mom and just hang out. I do like to pull all the toys and bones out of the toy bin though, which makes my foster mom l laugh and laugh.

My foster home has lots of other dogs both big and small and I'm just fine with all of them. We also have a cat that I am very curious about, but I'm fine to listen to my foster mom when she tells me to come on with her and leave the cat alone. I love my foster mom and dad and the two little boys who live here. I will jump up on people for attention though, so a home with infants or toddlers might not be the best match.

We are working on housetraining and I am doing very well, I LOVE to go outside and romp around the yard and then lay on the porch surveying my domain. I do have issues with marking inside the house, but my foster mom is working on that, meanwhile I wear a belly band while inside. My new family will have to continue working with me on the housetraining and marking inside. Sometimes if I am sleeping and another dog comes very near me I will show my teeth, I have not growled or snapped at any of them but my new family will need to be cautious (particularly the children) until I've been around a little longer to know exactly how I'll react when my beauty sleep is disturbed.

I lay quietly in the car when we ride, and I walk well on a leash with a harness. I don't mind getting a bath, though the hair dryer scares me. I sleep quietly in my crate besides mom's bed at night, but I would much rather be on the bed with my family. My foster mom says I have adapted to being in a loving home just beautifully and catch on to things very quickly.

Everyone in my foster family just loves me to pieces, and feels like my few little issues are greatly outweighed by my awesome personality and sweet nature. I'm ready to start a new chapter entitled "living the good life!", if you can help me on that journey please contact my best buds at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.

7/26/09 update: Dexter here checking in with an update. I just love living in this foster home where my mom tells me all the time what a good and pretty boy I am! I am doing really great on housetraining as long as my foster mom gets me outside enough, and I am doing much better with the marking inside too. There are a lot of other dogs here, and new dogs coming in all the time which probably won't be the case in my new home. I don't run around the house marking all day anymore and no longer have to wear a belly band unless a new foster boy dog or guest is coming. My foster mom thinks a few days in a belly band with some reminders will be all it takes in my new forever home.

I'm such a good boy my foster mom rarely crates me. There were two days when I turned over the kitchen trash when she left (she shouldn't leave such good smelling stuff in there!) but my foster mom put the trashcan where I couldn't reach it for a few days and I forgot all about it and haven't done it since. I also show my age a little bit when there are young spastic dogs zipping around by getting a little grumpy with them. I really don't mind other dogs or cats, but will probably do best in a home where there are small animals that are pretty settled in and have outgrown puppy playfulness. I like to play, just on my terms!

My foster family says I am one of the easiest dogs ever and while they will be sad to see me go, they are also sad that I have been in foster care for a a couple months instead of bonding with my permanent family. If you've been looking for a cool dog like me, please call SBRET and ask to meet Dex--you won't regret it!

9/8/09 update: My foster family had some sickness, so I've moved in with a new foster family. Thought it would be calmer, but that shows what I know! The dogs are very friendly and while they are playful, they respect that I don't always want to join in the fun as I'm not a young pup. My new foster mom just studies me. I love to lay near her or her son while he plays his video games. I'm happy on the floor at her feet or on the couch. I do get excited and jump when I see her – I so want to tell her how much I appreciate being part of her family until I find my forever home. Do you have room in your heart and home for a loyal little boy like me?
